Companions

The grey and purple figures in this work are modeled after depictions of the food which was buried with royal mummies in ancient Egypt. The idea of burying one’s possessions with them is bittersweet – those objects make up just the carcass of a life, without the soul of a person animating them. Human connections are delicacies we experience in fragments. We forget so much of what we experience with other people and hold on to key events that shape our relationships and our perception of the people we’re in relationships with. Wherever we go, we carry those events – those fragments – and we incorporate them into our lives and who we are.
